Yup. It's time to start gathering up all your receipts, your T4's , your RRSP contribution, that is if you are lucky enough to be able to save and put some away. It's that time of year that the taxman wants your money yet again. Urgh! As we gather our information to take to the tax man, for some of us that means reviewing our credit card bills. In reviewing those bills, I wonder how many of us are still paying off a few of those Christmas items?Well as I was busily gathering things to take the the taxman, my hubby came across this article and I thought I would share it with you all. It just might help us understand why we are stilling paying for things we bought before Christmas. It's titled:
The cost of The Twelve Days of Christmas is up 3.1 percent over last year., according to PNC Financial Services Group. Buying each item in the song once will now cost you $18,920 US; that total cost once all the verses are repeated rings in at $75,122 US. This year it appears that the wages for skilled workers, including dancers and musicians. have increased as the labour market has tightened up. While the price for the partridge, turtledoves, French hens, geese and swans remains stable, dancing ladies and lords a -leaping wages are up 4 and 3 percent respectively. The maids a -milking are not as lucky. They make the US federal minimum wage of $5.15/hour, having not received a wage increase since 1997. Trying for on-line deals won't help much either. Buying the items over the Internet will set you back $125,767, mainly due to shipping costs."

I wonder how much I would save if I only bought 2 days of Christmas?

We had our visit with the T man recently. So NOT fun...
:)
I'm glad we got that little annual chore out of the way. It's really much easier when you're retired and don't have to figure out whether to itemize or not.
Hooray, we're getting a nice refund this year -- don't know what we will use the money for but probably a part on the grandkids (of course).
We don't use credit cards to pay for Christmas any more. If we don't have the cash, we don't buy it. Once December is done, we don't think about Christmas again until July when the stores start marketing again!!!
I agree with you Motherkitty....I haven't used my credit card for Christmas for the past two years and it's the best thing I ever did. But still there is more on my credit card than I would like. I really have to start to learn some control.....
So glad i don't have to do this!
Thanks for visit before, if you like gardening check out my new post and follow link on it.
toodle pip!
We paid off all credit cards 10 years ago, and don't own any now....mostly it's a great relief not to have one....but still there are times...ya know!!
Hugs
The taxman comes wayyyy too soon after Christmas! lol My husband filled out his income tax forms and he owes again this year...sigh.
That's it...I'm cancelling Christmas next year! LOL!
I have not done mine yet. Ironically, I'm waiting for a statement from that very same PNC Financial Group.
I've already begun my "shopping" for next Christmas and birthdays too - got a membership last week to Barnes and Noble that gives some nice discounts, etc. So, in addition to my grandson (who I told last year I will buy him books, but no toys) everyone else on my list, where possible, is gonna get books this year too! I got a nice surprise today when one book I ordered last week arrived. Guess I wasn't paying that close attention when I ordered it but I thought since it was in the "Annex Sale" area of B&N that a price of $5.98 meant it was a paperback. Imagine my surprise when it arrived today - a very nice hardbound book that had cost me, yes, $5.98! ("Shoot the Moon" by B illie Letts! I'm impressed!)
I'm glad I shop at Amazon!
sigh, i bought nothing for christmas. we went on the family cruise and that was everyone's present. they all want the same thing next year too! only chuck did not get to go, so he got a check. smiles, bee
Hi there, just wanted to let you know I did a 'How to' instruction post on Mr Linky for you.
Let me know if it helps you at all! (and/or if it's easy to follow :-)
Hi RN, if you go to WetCoastWomen, there are instructions there to get the label.
thanx for stopping by :)
opps! they are located under tools on WCW
Our taxes have been done now for awhile. Also, we don't use credit cards for Christmas.
I like what you have done with your sidebar. Adding all those pictures really looks pretty.
not looking forward to my visit. It always end up costing us....yet were below poverty. I just don't get it. Last year they took a 100 off my family tax check....yet we only made 27,000 that year. How is that fair?
