Well it is that time of year and winter seems to be dragging on, even though the groundhog saw his shadow spring is still a ways off. I need a vacation. Somewhere warm and inviting. Some fun in the sun! I am taking my girls along. We haven't had a vacation in years. So first things first. In order to travel, we need passports. My girls and I have had them in the past, but they expired and need to be renewed. My girls, unfortunately, haven't applied yet. My two eldest daughters are able to apply on their own. It's my younger daughter who needs parental signatures and documentation. So last week after I had applied for mine and was informed as to how long it would take I started to panic. I called the girls and told them to get a move on. I spoke with my ex and asked him about our youngest. The ex now advises me he won't wait in line up to get youngest daughters passport. So he is sending all documents back to me so I can make the 3 hour car ride down island to the only passport office on the island and then wait in line for 6 -8 hrs. Urgh!!!! There has to be a better way. But I fear there is not.
This whole passport thing is making me mad. If I thought for a moment that it would decrease the number of illegal immigrants and possible terrorists I would support it right away. But in Europe and countries where you have always had to have passports, they still have problems. So what does this solve. And then I hear that passports for the states only applies to air travel right now. Up until 2008 you can still get across the border by ground without a passport. Someone please tell me where is the logic in that? It's just more money in the government pocket. But that is for another post.

So I need a vacation. I've been searching the net...best flights, best places to stay...should I go to an all inclusive, should I rent a little house and get flights and accommodations separately? Oh so many things to think about. Whining...I know...sorry. So then it dawned on me. Why not go to a travel agent tell them when you want to go, how many and what your budget is and let them do that work...right? I mean isn't that what they are suppose to do? So I send out a couple of emails giving them my particulars. And what do they come back with...prices and things I had found myself on the net. So I am sorry I don't mean to be rude...but what is it these travel agents do then? Isn't their job to help you plan your dream vacation? Give you suggestions that works within your budget? This gal didn't even stay within my budget nor did she offer to continue looking. Am I wrong here? I know I shouldn't complain as I am fortunate enough to be able to even think about planning a holiday when many others are not. Anyhow, we are back at square one. Hubby and I are searching the net. I'll keep you posted if we have any luck.

So today, I spent the first part of my morning responding to comments people have left me. I always like to acknowledge people when they take the time to read my blog and post a comments. Thank you. So anyhow, I am replying to comments made on my bird post. When I noticed that three of the folks who left comments on my blog also referenced my blog on theirs. I am flattered folks....people like grandmocha who was sharing her snowy day with us, and comments on a card I sent her, go say hi to her for me would ya, and there's, Duward Discussion who liked my post on the Owl and the Pussy-Cat and has started on some childhood poems and stories she liked...check it out, and then there was Crpitt who I thought did the neatest thing on her blog...she was showing folks blogs that she visits everyday and she used something for each persons blog to identify them....great blog and worth a visit. There are so many great blogs out there....I love to visit all of them...but wow it can become time consuming...how do you all do it? I was thinking doing a little in the morning and a little at night. Try not to spend to much time at night as that is time I like to spend with hubby. But really folks...how do you find the time and balance?

So I have gotten myself involved in this scavenger hunt exchange. And for the past couple of days I have been on the look out for items to put in the parcel. Pea I know you are going to see this so I am not going to say what they are, but my goodness, it's not as easy as I thought, so I have to go out hunting again today. It's fun. I did one of these exchanges back in the fall, which was organized by my dear friend Pea. She has the sweetest blog. Full of all kinds of things to do and things she has made. She always has a happy birthday wish for someone. Anyhow, it is through Pea that I met my dear friend grandmocha...and now Pea is the person I have to exchange with for this scavenger hunt. So be on the look out Pea!

And so in closing my blog for the day I would like to leave you with a thought for the day:
Forgiveness
If you haven't forgiven yourself something, how can you forgive others?
~Dolores Huerta~
Have a great day, cheers all!!!

I am with you on the whole passport thing. It is ridiculous how long it takes and how much they charge for these. If it stopped illegals and terrorists, I would be the first in line (even waiting 6 - 8 hours)! I could go on and on about this subject, but I won't! Hopefully you don't have to wait that long, and you can get it quickly! Good Luck!
This passport thing will not stop illegals and/or terrorists....it hasn't in the past so I wonder why they think it will now!? And waiting in line that long is maddening to say the least! Good luck with it all....I'm sure it will be worth it in the long run so you can go and enjoy your holiday where it is sunny and warm! Hugs, my friend!!!
I got lucky when I got my passport, the longest part was filling out the application...but when in there in the middle of the day (here it's done at the post office) and the woman that helped me was extremely nice and helpful and it was very painless.
As for planning a trip, I think that if you are going to use a travel agent, it's best to actually go to them so you can have a running dialogue with them so they can ask you questions and really give you an idea of what's avilable. Emailing back and forth only really works when you know exactly what you want.
Drat! I was hoping to sneak in here and find out what you were sending me!!! hehe I have half your parcel made up but need to go in the city to find a couple more things:-) Oooooh this is so much fun!
I know what you mean about the passport thing...my husband and son Corey applied for theirs months ago and still haven't received it. They need it to go to Shawn's wedding in Mexico in April!!! As for the travel agent, I would have thought he/she would have done a lot more for you...I guess you almost have to go to their office and find out exactly what is expected from them! Good luck in your travel plans!! Hugs xox
The whole passport business is a bunch of BS (your ex is an ass hat BTW). It is not going to make the country safer but the government will earn some extra dough.
The passport thing is a bit confusing I think! We've had passports for quite sometime, but our friends who travel with us don't. Since we're planning a cruise this year they applied and now find out they don't need them (unless we have to fly to a non US country to board the ship)
I would have thought your travel agent would have been somewhat more helpful too!
:)
I hope you have the best vacation...one that is so good you forget all about your passport woes!
Blogging can be overwhelming, but I'm one of the lucky ones that does not work outside the home and that helps.
Pea was my first buddie in the blog world and you just can't beat her as a friend!!
:-D
Just the two of us were saying that we should get the ball rolling on getting our passports. The new law is a bit of a pain, but I guess we live in a different world now.
My Daughter and hubby had a fantastic time in Mexico. They went with an all inclusive trip she found herself on the net. They picked all kinds of fun things to do on the side like ziplining, snorkling with the Dolphins, and a intimate native picnic on an Island. Hope you find something fun, and that you don't have to wait in line forever! :)
Since I've started working, visiting all the blogs I have listed takes quite a while now. Usually I only get to all of them on Saturdays now. As for your travel plans, I don't have any advice. Skittles and I usually drive to where we are going and play it all by ear as to where we stay. I do hope you have a good vacation though.
Hello! Thank you for visiting my blog and for the birthday wishes! My passport needs to be renewed and I'm not looking foward to it. Also, starting next year, my children will need one for when we go up to Canada to visit my family. That will end up costing a fortune!
I hope you find the perfect spot for a little vacation!

me. me. pick me.

When we wanted to fly interstate last year, I went to the travel agents in person, waited for ages and they told me, "See what flights you can book online and then we'll help you do the rest." I ended up doing it all by myself.
I like your last quote about forgiveness. Sometimes it's harder to forgive ourselves than it is to forgive others.
I do NOT like the passport idea at all, especially living so close to Detroit which has the bridge to Canada. Me & Mike would sometimes drive across and spend some time just looking around. Will it be worth a $70 passport to do? Nope.
As for blogging.. I have more free time since I don't work. But it still takes up so much time.
My turn to whine.. I have a long list of blogs I visit every day.. and I'm thinking of paring it down some. It's so hard to choose, though.
Plus I get myself into the Thursday Thirteen things and have to go visit all of them.
I took a short break not too long ago and thought I'd found my balance. It just draws you right back in!
Did that sound ungrateful? I think it did.
The passport business is a total scam, I agree. But now I'll have to get one, too, for the first time in my life.
I've been to Canada -- via Windsor which Barb references. I did get in trouble coming back after staying the night further east. The customs agent asked if I'd bought anything. Yes, I said, I bought this newspaper in the morning. He almost pulled us all out of the car for being a smart-alek -- although, on that occasion, I was not trying to be difficult; that was indeed all I had bought -- the hotel room and breakfast not counting as something you'd have to declare at the border, right?
As for the passports, we yanks have to be careful of you Canadian terrorists, eh? Seriously, it's so lame! Our two nations have shared open borders without serious incident since 1812. Bush must be afraid we'll get infected with Canadian politeness.
On your vacation, have you considered Vancouver Island? I hear it's lovely.
On blogs, I alternate days between starting at a and z. On Z days, I'm pretty short by the time I get here.
Finally! Getting around to reading my favorite blogs on yes, MY NEW COMPUTER! I'm probably having as much trouble here trying to figure out how to operate with Windows XP as you are trying to deal with passports and travel agents and such! Betcha you get your problems cleared up well before I figure out what I'm doing here! LOL
thanksgiving day is coming .. happy thanksgiving 2008 1!!
