Update on my week with the boys...

Oh let me start off by saying I am so frustrated!!! Urgh!!. I had just spent considerable amount of time making a post this morning. I was just at the point of previewing it, when I scrolled to the top and found half of my post gone. Yes gone! What the heck! Stay calm I tell myself. Save what you have and step away from the computer. And that is exactly what I did.

I was telling you all about my adventures with the boys thus far. Maybe I was to long winded and that was blogs way of telling me keep it simple.

As I told you the boys arrived Monday night. I worked so Tuesday was my first day with them. Being exhausted post night shift I did manage to get a couple of hours of sleep. I got up, did some house chores and then headed outside. The boys had been busy entertaining themselves on the quad. My quad has been acting up so husband was busy working on it. The weather was pleasant still a bit of a chill in the air but the sun was trying to come through. I decided I would start clearing some of the over grown area between his parents place and ours. We have a path the we use to access their place but it is getting a bit over grown. So after about 4 hours of chopping, raking, and clearing I decide to call it a day. The boys had been helpful in gathering the brush and weeds and throwing it on the soon to be bonfire. I decide we need to go to town and get a few things and get the boys a treat. They both get themselves a bag of candy at the grocery store. We leave there and go and get a few videos. It was going to be movie night.

Wednesday we thought was going to be our quad day but it doesn't happen either. The boys ride the one quad but we don't want them going to far. They still manage to have fun. I decide to get back at clearing some of the over grown brush on the back 40. I was talking to father in law and telling him how I would like to see two particular trees come down. Next thing I know, there is husband and the two trees are down. Great, more work. The boys and I and grandpa start hauling away the huge branches and chopping them down so we can put them on the bonfire. Husband teaches the boys how to use the small chain saw so they can busy themselves chopping off the branches. While they chop I drag and carry the stumps and huge pieces of tree. Just call me Helga. The boys laugh grandpa teases. I tell them I am in training for the Russian Female Olympic weightlifting team.....He he....NOT! Oh I have been so sore. Found muscles I didn't even know I had.

Thursday comes. Day off from yard work. We decided we were going to go bowling and then go visit the Horne Lake Caves. Off to bowling we go. It starts out all fine until youngest son gets upset about not being very good. We kept trying to tell him we were only here for fun just take his time and do what he feels comfortable with. He decides to quit and starts to cry. I was not impressed. But we decide that we are not going to let his mood affect the day. We play another game. Such form. That's husband on the right and eldest son on the bottom.

We finish with the bowling and head out to the caves. The caves are really neat, but what we didn't count on was the caves being so wet. Oh did I mention, that in order to get to the cave we have to walk across a suspension bridge? I hate bridges.

The water that you saw running out of the cave above, runs down this mountain side into the Qualicum River which then runs into Horne Lake. After our tour of the caves and a little adventure we decide to make our way home.
These are some of the mountains surrounding the lake. Husband being the stone man that he is always appreciate stone formation. So hence we had to get a picture of these mountains.
It is a dirt logging road we have to travel. At one point Husband motions to me to stop the car and pull over. I pull over and what do we see before our eyes, but the biggest turkey vulture. Husband tries to get some shots but he didn't have the tripod. He goes to get the tripod and of course the bird moves. These are massive birds with 6 foot wing span. Amazing. Unfortunately, we didn't' get a clear enough photo to share.
Another point of nature which I really appreciate are the Arbutus trees. We don't have Arbutus trees on the mainland. They are the most interesting tree. In the winter they shed their bark and their trunks become this beautiful orange rusty colour.

Aren't they cool? Well I think they are. Anyhow, we make our way home. It is homemade halibut fish nuggets and fries. While husband makes the fish nuggets I prepare the fries for the oven, and then make the lasagna for Friday nights dinner. I figure after a day of skiing I don't think I am going to want to be cooking anything. So we finish dinner and decided it is board game time. Junior trivial pursuit is the game of choice. It's not that easy. It's like that new show "So you think you are smarter than a 5th Grader". NOT!!! Husband and youngest son win. Urgh! I just kept getting my butt kicked all day! Feeling a little out numbered here. Ah well no worries, I will get them on the the slopes.

Beautiful photos and wonderful memories you are making with the boys. Those trees with their smooth, rust colored trunks are great...I love them too! But I have always found trees fascinating anyway! I think I'm a tree geek, lol!

Thanks for sharing your adventures with me. It makes me feel as if I am there having fun with you!

Hugs, my friend!

Sounds like you are having a great time being active and doing all kinds of interesting things with the boys. We actually watched that TV show, So you think you're smarter than a 5th grader" and thought it was a really good program -- even husband enjoyed it. I love Trivial Pursuit but nobody wants to play with me because they usually lose. Oh, well.

Glad you are back blogging again. I've missed you.

Good intermixing of work and play by the sounds of things! And the pictures, great - really great! Glad you and the boys are all enjoying the time together. Makes for some great and really happy memories to look back on the photos and recall this time spent together.

I'm so glad that you are having such a good time!

BTW, You are the second person I've read today who complained about Blogger eating their post.

Really cool photos...I love trees, too. They have the neatest shapes and forms. We're close to the area where the turkey vultures migrate. We occasionally get an errant one flying over and my poor parrot really loses it! I guess he thinks he's gonna be dinner!
I'm happy that you and the boys had a good time.
~~~Blessings~~~
