Today what is burning my twizzlers is our Judicial system. Apparently a serial rapist being released in our midst's. His name is Paul Callow. You can read his story here. This man is guilty of climbing up balconies of women's homes and entering their homes and raping them. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his crime, which he has served everyday. The problem is, is that he is at extremely high risk of offending again. The province of Ontario where he committed the crime does not want him and he has been shipped out to British Columbia to the city of New Westminster.

School Closures
I been hearing a lot of chatter lately about the School Districts closing schools. This seems to be a province wide initiative. I can understand if they are closing the schools because enrollment is down or the school is in need of repair. But that doesn't really seem to be the case here. Where I work I have being listening to parents saying that they are closing two schools and moving them all to one school. The school they will be moving these students to is not big enough to accommodate the increase. The School Boards answer is to put in portables! Does that make sense? Have any of those administrators ever spent one cold winters day in the portable or a hot summer day? Portables are not the answer. They just add to the problem. They increase safety issues, health issues, and over crowding issues. I think at the end of the day, it is not really whats best for the students but what is best for the government pocket book and we do this at the expense of our children. Shame on them!!!
Would you want this for your children?
Have you ever planned your day based on the weather?
Happy Friday All!!

i so agree with you on the *balcony rapist* i don't care if he served his time, they have said repeatedly that he will re-offend. so sure, lets let him out into society
and the school closures?? argh! i just may enroll all our kids in private school this fall instead of our oldest lol
Uh Oh! Once RN's twizzlers get involved, it's time to duck! ;-)
Seriously on Callow, here in the US he would have gotten much more than twenty, even twenty years ago. On whether or not he can be cured, there's a lot of controversy on that subject. About 95% of the criminals in that general category are curable. Without knowing what therapy he has undergone and how he responded to it, I can't comment on the likelihood that he will reoffend. One thing is certain, though. As Ontario's problem, he should have to stay in Ontario.
yikes - why only 20 years?
They should lock up that guy and throw away the key. Have a good weekend!
I say cut his pee pee off and be done with it.
You ask do I ever plan my day around the weather? Of course! Being off grid you have to. Somehow I don't think that's what you really meant though. :)
Geez I didn't know we had sent him to BC! lol I agree with you though, not enough is done to get the help these guys need...they're going to let him go...wait until he rapes again...and then just throw him back in?! As for the school closures, it's going on around here too and what I can't understand, they say that some school are no longer needed so they ship everyone off to one school....then next thing you know there's a new school being built! Don't make no sense to me whatsoever!!
Guess what?!! Your parcel arrived today!! Ooooooh what fun I had opening everything...Thank you sooooo much!!! I will be posting about it tomorrow:-) It was really great to have you as a swap partner!! I'm still laughing at the fact we both sent each other sweetpea seeds! lol xoxo
Hi,
I noticed you tucked into Josies side bar, and couldn't resist coming over to visit another BC Blogger.
You have a very nice site here, I have enjoyed your recent posts.
This latest about this rapist is just a mind boggler. They can't hold him on the dangerous offenders act, which would detain him as long as he was deemed a risk to violently reoffend, because he was charged before that became law, so does not apply to him.
Ill be back!
It definitely does pose a quandry. And, you are so right about the govt. going and passing laws right and left, sometimes at what seems to be at the drop of a hat and other times, it takes them forever to get the gears meshing and balls rolling to change stuff.
Prisons are "Supposed" to have counseling services, training or re-training programs available for virtually every circumstance but yet, at times it does seem that those aspects are often totally ignored or still non-existant. And, if they are available for the prisoner, are they mandatory or a matter of choice too? There is not near enough continuity in any of these things to be able to say that a person who has been incarcerated and done the specified time proscribed in the sentence, is rehabilitated in any way, shape or form to be released then back into society. And, who is it that made the choice to ship this guy from one province clear out to the other side of the country too anyway? Strange, just very strange, isn't it?
Thanks for taking a looky-loo at my blog. I am really excited to be a part of the Wet Coast Women Blog.
I would love to shoot your beautiful girls. Are you ever in Vancouver?? I have done portraits before. There aren't any up on my blog, because I feel that it's inappropriate to put them up on my personal blog. I am working on a business web site for my photography, so when I get it up I'll let you know.
I will really enjoy taking a looky-loo at your blog! Already, I'm having a joyful time.
Nice to meet you!
what burns my twizzlers... I just heard that a principle in a public school somewhere her in PA has been selling drugs out of his office! actually letting some of these druggy people INTO THE SCHOOL in order to buy/sell. Yeah, i'd be LIVID if it was my child's school. Plus, when the police went in to get him, they found him naked in his office, watching VERY questionable things via his computer's internet.
what adds to the frustration-- awhile ago, the school put in a complaint about the guy to the district's board. and nothing was done. they didnt even look into things.
Jeni, I do volunteer work in prisons and helping former prisoners transition back into society. I can't speak about Canada, but in the US the trend has been to warehouse prisoners and exploit their labor. What rehabilitative services that exist are provided mostly by prisoners for prisoners, and by volunteers.
What burns my twizzlers? George W. Bush. Every day. For 6.5 years and counting.
Re: school closures. I'm seeing it from a little different perspective. Our district is closing three schools because, at least for the 15 years I've been teaching in this district, the employees have been the lowest paid (with the worst health benefits) than any other district in the county, while our cost of living is the highest in the county. It's gotten so bad that now the district can't get people to interview for teaching or administrative jobs here. We need a new superintendent and can't get applicants for that position, either. What especially "burns my twizzlers" (love that phrase) is that I teach at a larger school with 34, 35, 36 adolescents stuffed into my classroom while the smaller schools have only 18, 19, 20 adolescents in theirs. Closure of each school saves the district about $500,000, which is supposed to go into raising salaries and equalizing class sizes. The best solution for kids, of course, would be to simply raise salaries and LOWER class sizes across the district, but that would mean raising taxes and, heavens! This community would never stand for that!
The current harrassment and lack of support by mayor of Surrey and New Westminster, protestors and GlobalTV will piss of Callow.
If he rapes, it is the responsibility of the community and the protestors for leaving him be.
Give the man a job and a place to live.
That will prevent him from raping.
