and required losts of tests and hospitalizations. At the time Ty were making these stuffed animals called Beanies....well needless to say Roisin got lots and lots of them so she became the Beanie baby. Now at the age of 14 she has a collection of close to 100 beanies. My point to all of this is. What is in a name. Where does it come from. Is your name a family name passed down from generation to generation, like my husband. His name was given to him as was his uncles and great grandfather and so on. Or is it a name that your parents just made up. Like I remember my girlfriends daughter had a friend name Raya...guess what her last name was? Sunshine. So her full name was Raya Sunshine. Can you say hippie era. Or what about those names that keep the same pronounciation but just change the spelling....or like ones that keep the same spelling but pronounce it differently, like Brendan or Helena. Both are names of my sibilings but I have heard them said so many different ways. Like Helena...I know there is a town in Montana named that but it is pronounced Hel le na not Hel leena as we pronounce it. Or like Monquie beautiful name I have heard it pronounced Mon neek which I think is wonderful and romantic or Mon nick which is ok.
I always wonder why I got the boring old name that I got, I just put it down to being baby number ten and my parents were getting tired of finding names. There is however, many songs written about my name....something about down by the seaside sifting sand......

So what does your name tell us about you?

well i don't think anyone knows my real name here. it is bonnie. when i was born a nurse told my mother that it was a beautiful name but what would it sound like when i was an old woman? well now i am, and i am "bee"....
And a wonderful name it is Bee aka Bonnie!!!
Well, I'm actually a III. Oldest Son is a IV.
My story is that when we get to XXIII we'll make that one Pope and then retire the name.
But doesn't that sound so stuffy? (I never use the numerals except professionally -- lawyers are supposed to be stuffy, it's good for business -- unless I'm telling this story....)
What a lovely post!! I bet no-one thought of writing about their name :-))
My Dad took a fancy to the name I've been given, it means Heavenly body, can you guess what it is??
When mom was pregnant for me she had decided to name me Joanne but when I was born, she looked at me and said I didn't look like a Joanne but a Carole! lol My middle name is Rose, taken after my gran's (mom's mom) name. Catching up with blogs today, haven't had much time lately...sigh! Thank you so much for your kind words regarding my winning the Blog of the Day award...it's lovely friends like you that make it all worthwhile:-) xox
Interesting post!
I'm named for my great grandma on my Mom's side and my middle name is from my Grandma on my Dad's side.
:)
Curmudgeon III...sounds kidda nice..reminds me of when I went to private school...lots of II and III...stuffy but traditional....
gincoleaves...now your name would it be Constance? for the Constellations and if it is do you get called Connie for short?
Pea - so you are a Carole Rose....lovely...see now Carole for singing and being heard..and what a wonderful time of year for that. Rose well you know I am found of that name...hence my daugher. Actually what i didn't say about her name is that is my Aunts name and my cousins name in England. It is somewhat of a popular name over there.
I just discovered that you visited my blog awhile ago. Sorry I missed you. Cute story about your daughters nickname. I just had my first grandchild and her name is Jerzie Shea (Shea for Mets stadium,my son is a fan). I love her name now. It just seems to fit her.
Josie is my nickname and it was started by my high school friends and stuck with various friends throughout the years. But I have a formal name.
When my daughter was born I wanted to name her Jennifer, but her two (Irish) grandfathers got together over a bottle of Irish whiskey the night she was born, telephoned the nursing station and announced to the nurses what my daughter's name was going to be (a traditional Irish name). So, I didn't get to name her Jennifer. But she actually suits her name now.
Cheers,
Josie
P.S. I love the mem. I'm going to do it tonight.
Oh, Constance is such a lovely name, but Dad decided the name Celeste suits better to me, LOL!
Dad's do come up with strange ideas at times, :-))
Im not quite sure where my name came from. I think it was just a popular name of the early 50s. I do know that I was supposed to be a "Nancy", but my aunt who was pregnant at the same time as mother, delivered first and named her baby Nancy...:)
I think I want to THANK GOD I was not named after my grandmother. She was named Myrtle!
My middle name is Lynn and I also have no clue where that came from..
My niece had a daughter that she named Mariah Reeann...I thought that was a horrible name. I had an old aunt who had a cat named Mariah. That was the meanest cat in 15 states. However, Mariah is now 16 years old and beautiful. She goes by the nickname of "Riah" I can't imagine her being called anything else.
I don't think my name was from a family member. My formal name is Marcia (pronounced Mar sha). I have been called Marcie and Martie...my middle name is Lou after my mom's mom...thank goodness they shortened it to Lou, her name was Louella....ugh!!!
Ha, well you reminded me of one of my ancestors. His name was Furbert de Westcote. How's that for a handle?
I suggested my niece name her first child after him - she compromised and named her kitten Furbert - and it suited him!
I love tradition!
I wanted to stop in and say hello, and to say thanks for stopping in at my blog. I like yours and have been reading back post. Very nice. I will be back
You already know my name is Barb. I looked up it's meaning once in one of those baby name books and it meant "stranger."
I always hated it. My sister's name was Joan Alice. My brother's name was James Alan. I was BARBARA (Ann). I know there are tons more J names around... why couldn't I have been one, too. Sheesh.
Dirk means wooden dagger.
In the wood and canvas sailing ships of old metal didn't hold up very well at sea.
The weapons they used in hand to hand combat were made of wood. Dirks were small hand daggers...
My real name tells you I'm Irish (well part Irish).
My screen name tells you I'm crazy.
I think you folks are all great...this has been fun. I love the stories behind everyones names.
thanks for playing along all!!!
Cheers!
If you look into baby name books, as well as the internet, they will say that Russell means red-haired, or red fox.
Which is kinda funny, and stupid since 1. my hair is black, and 2. I am not a fox.
Anyways, I think my parents took my name from a supposed famous olympian in the 70s, John Russell. Never got the chance to look that up, though.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Love the photos!
My name was going to be spelled Stephen, but my father claimed that if it was, "it might make me gay."
Thats the end of my story. ;)
Steve~
Steve....and the 'v' did what???
My 'real' name is Kerry.
Mom apparently just liked the sound and spelling. We claim she was inspired by a brand of margerine that she used.
HER name is Maxine...gramps named her after one of the Andrews Sisters.
My husband is like the fourth or 5th guy in his family with the exact same name.
I think all of Quebec has about 500 people with the same name.
My son's first name is my maiden name.
We just liked Caity and wanted something vaguely celtic but not pretentious.
