Christmas Tree 2006

So today was the day to venture out into the back woods and go find that special tree. We headed off the back roads and up the logging roads. Completely forgetting about all the storms we have had over the past 2 weeks and that some of the roads might be impassable. Well I guess forestry folks had been out, all the trees that would have been blocking the road and been chopped and moved to the side of the road. Free firewood for the taking! Yahoo! But we will have to save that for another day.

So we eventually find the spot to where we will go off road, put the truck into 4wheel and off we go. We come to a spot were we figure we will just stop and go trekking to find that tree. So off we go. We weren't gone that long when we spotted our tree.

Douglas, aka Paul Bunion

And so the cutting begins

This picture just gives you an idea as to where we were chopping down this tree.

My brother dragging the tree out. Not long after this shot was taken, he took a tumble. Lots of the trees and shrubs are rotten and he fell through a hole, cut his chin...but I think his pride was more hurt.

There's Bert...of course he had to come along...oh he had fun! So proud and majestic looking isn't he?

We then make the venture home. Got some great shots of a golden hawk. But I will save those for another day. Anyhow, we get the tree home and the decorating begins.

The finished product...gosh looking at it now....it doesn't look like it should have taken me three hours to decorate.

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree.....we have to do a little bit of tweaking...I want to get a little white light to shine on my angel, then I think I will be happy.

Thanks for letting me share my day with you. Hope all of you are having a great weekend!!!

As a child I use to trek through the woods with my sisters and dad to get our tree every year....it was great fun and a tradition I miss now!

Your tree is lovely! I spent the day searching for that one last gift that had been so elusive and was successful!

The evening was spent watching two grandsons ~ a 6 year old (piece of cake) and a 6 month old who is teething and screamed for 3 1/2 hours....my nerves are shot!!!! They're spending the night....not much sleep for me maybe!?!

I'm going to watch my granddaughter, Amber's church Christmas program at 9 AM tomorrow. I hope I'm not too tired for the 30 mile drive one way!!!!

What a gorgeous tree...! It looks beautiful. When I lived on Vancouver Island I used to go out with my Dad to get the tree. But all year long we would pick out trees as we were driving out to Sproat Lake, or along the highway to Qualicum, etc. Then we would know right where to go for our Christmas tree. Thanks for bringing back such wonderful memories.

Cheers,
Josie

Mary Anne, I think your tree is beautiful. You just go out some where and cut down your tree? I would love to do that just one year.

We use to always have a real tree but we went to a place that already had them cut. You just pick which one you want. Give it a fesh cut and off you went with it.

Your tree looks wonderful - you did a beautiful job!

I miss those days of trudging through the bush - we have a fake tree now, and it's just not the same.

what a gorgeous tree and a wonderful experience! I used to beg my parents to let us go trudging into the "woods" to chop down our own Christmas tree and always pointed out great specimens as we drove around. They, however, loved to point out the fact that it is illegal to chop down trees in city parks and I was out of luck!
