Monday morning Birding....

Spring must be just around the corner. As I was sitting practising the piano this morning I looked out my window to see this:

I wasn't sure at first if I was looking at a House Finch or a Purple Finch. After looking in my bird books and Sibley's being the bird bible...and checking out the internet, it would appear that the bird on tip is the male Purple finch and the bird perched on the hands and the other at the back are the females....there was a high bird count this morning.....the quail were out as well.. California Quail male
In this picture we have the male purple finch and a Dark-eyed Junco(sparrow family)perched on the branch in the back.
Male and Female Purple Finch

Herring season just started. It only lasts for a few days..but while the herring are running the feeding for the birds is amazing, and it truly is a site to behold....

Taken yesterday Bald Eagle on the waters edge Qualicum Beach

I saw so many eagles as I drove though Qualicum on Sunday. It always surprises me to see them standing around on the beach.

Great pics of the birds in your vicinity - especially the bald eagle! And, where did you ever find the cool bird feeder anyway? I love that one!

You are right, spring is on the way. It seems to be coming earlier this year than last year. I have a Junco story on my blog about planting day last year. We called it the Junco Wars. We are heading back to Powell River tomorrow. I can't wait to see what birds and critters are back at the cabin. -- Margy

We've been getting a lot of birds here too but mainly doves, crows and starlings. I can't wait to see my first robin, then it will mean Spring has arrived! lol I so love your pictures, wonderful close ups of those gorgeous birds. I could sit there and watch them all day long. xox

I can't wait until we have some birds here! It was above zero today, but we still have a lot of snow.

the purple finch are beautiful. I especially like the last photo - they're at opposite ends of the feeder and the female looks like she has a lot to say :)

the feeder is great!

and you're keeping up with the piano - that's great. Soon you'll need to make a recording for us.
