To see or not to see.......

The continuing story of the glasses.....well I took my sisters advice and contacted the store and told them I wanted to cancel my order...of course they said I couldn't do that.....and of course I didn't like that response so I wrote a letter to their head office who in turn forwarded my letter to their Regional Manager who called me....I spoke with him, but he just regurgitated the same gobble dee goop as I had already heard. I asked him about their cancellation policy, he said they didn't have one and the if I didn't want the glasses I would have to forfeit my deposit of $450. Well that didn't sit well with me. So I wrote another letter to the head office, advising them that I had spoken with the Regional manager and that I wasn't happy with his response and I hoped that we could come to some mutual agreement. I haven't heard back. This afternoon I received a call from the store that I originally ordered the glasses from, they advised me that my glasses were in.....I told them again I didn't want them, she asked me if I had spoken with the Regional manager, I said yes but I was not happy with his response and that I had written the head office and was waiting to see what they had to say. I told them they could hold onto them if they wanted.

Ideally, I would like my money back and call it a day. I don't think that is going to happen. So what I am hoping will happened is that they agree to use the $450 which I gave as a deposit for the original purchase and apply it towards a pair of glasses that come within the amount I had paid for on the deposit. I have to wait and see what they think about that.

In the meantime, I really do need to get some glasses so I am going to have to come to some resolve sooner rather than later. Like I said in my last post.....Live and learn!!!! Oh, what to do?

Boy, sounds like it's becoming more trouble than it may be worth. Did you find some cheaper frames? I would weigh all this trouble against what you can save. JMHO

I can't understand why they are being so difficult, seems like they should think the same thing and just give the refund...Or maybe it's an I show you attitude with them, in which case I hope you show them! lol

I bought a pair of glasses not long ago and hated them once I got them. I asked if I could exchange them. They allowed me to buy another pair with the amount the first pair cost and they sent that pair of glasses to the needy. Try shopping at a larger optical place next time where reputation is known. Sounds like you might have to swallow this bad taste of an experience this time. =( Sorry to hear that.

When I had problems years ago with a vehicle I had purchased and got no where with the salesman, the manager, the owner of the dealer, I went to the manufacturer. At first they didn't want to see things my way either, but after my explanation of telling them that the media would hear of this and it would be broadcasted on local and perhaps national news stories, they came around. Is this a well known optical company that might not want their reputation presentet in a bad light in the news? If so, I suggest you try the same thing and see if they might be a little more receptive to your 'idea'. Good luck and be sure and let us know what your final outcome is!

Hugs!

Yes this is a large company, and I have alreeady thought about the media route, but wanted to give them a chance to see what they could or would do for me....I tried to get a hold of someone at the Better Business Bureau yesterday to get some advice, but wasn't able to speak to anyone, but I will try calling them again today to see what they have to say...but it seems like I am going to have to bite the bullet on this one....thanks all for your comments .....

Not sure what the law says over there but over here I don't think you would have a leg to stand on. Still they may relent and let you have a pair of specs that the $450 dollars will cover - I hope so.

I can't believe they didn't allow you to cancel your order ESPECIALLY since they don't have a refund policy in writting.

Yeah, you might have to eat the cost of the glasses BUT even if you have to get the ones that you have purchased, I still wouldn't give in...keep writing and express your dissatisfaction with their company and let them know that you WILL tell others about what has occurred.

I say forget it this time but know that it's best to shop around in the future. A good optometrist should always give you your prescription on a card to keep in your wallet and then you can go to all the outlets, etc. for the frames. Your optometrist doesn't necessarily have the style of frames (or price range) that suits you so should be understanding of that.

As a fellow glasses-wearer, and from experience, when you need frames, get ones that are a bit more expensive but look really good on you. The first time you get the glasses you'll love them - they're part of your face now so you want to always look your best. Then, when your prescription changes, (and it WILL) all you need to purchase are the spectacles (glass part). I update my frames maybe every 5 to 10 years (have needed them since I was 18 and now need the progressives) and am so used to how I look "with" glasses, I think I look strange "without" them. You'll be like that one day.

It's too bad your first experience was like this, but live and learn, as they say.
