Our day at the rink.....

Well I must say I am pleased that my last post prompted such dialogue about health care...the more of us that start talking about it and keeping it in the fore front the better off we all will be. Thank you all for your great comments.

Now onto a lighter note. The other day the boys and I were able to get out and do some ice skating. I think the last time I skated was last year and I made a post about it then. I don't know why I don't go more often, I really do enjoy it....I'm terrible at it...but it is a good work out for the legs and thighs. The boys had fun as well.....I think laughing at me...hubby was not able to participate due to his shoulder but was on the sidelines capturing our time on the ice on film. Here's eldest son helping the old gal skate around........

And here's eldest and I coming around to greet hubby....I don't know what I am doing with my arms and hands....trying to keep my balance I guess.....

Youngest son just having a great time.......

And here's me with both my boys......yes we did have a good day......

Tomorrow they go home....although we have had a fabulous time it is always to short and hard to say our goodbyes.....but as I have told them before...it is not good bye it's just see you soon.....like in the summer. Love you guys........

I have never been ice skating before...when I was growing up there wasn't anywhere local. Now there's an ice skating rink right at the other side of town so I have no excuse...except that I'm too chicken now!

I haven't been on pair of ice skates for ages and I mean ages.

I started skating as a kid and we'd rent our skates. But when I was 14, my parents got all of us figure skates for Christmas. We'd take the bus from Richmond to the Kerrisdale Arena and have so much fun on Saturday afternoons. Then when I was older I'd go with girl friends to the 19+ Friday nights and that's where I met a guy I almost married. He played hockey and I'd just let him practically carry me around the ice! Great memories, but I don't dare go on the ice now because of my bad back. I love watching the Olympics figure skating!

I last ice skated two years ago taking Amber with me. I skated as a kid every day in the winter, so I'm not that bad.......even for an old gal! I love to ice skate and think the next time Amber is here we will do it again!

Great pictures! And the thing with your arms and hands.......it's called 'ice ballet'.....that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!!! Hugs my friend!

It looks like you all had a great time at the rink! We used to ice skate every winter on the neighbors' pond- always had the greatest time. I'd love to do it again, but I'm sure I'd fall down and break something!

With them leaving, I trust it's a sad day for you, RN. {{hug}}

I'm glad you had such a great call while they were there.

Glad you had fun. :-)

I tried skating once. That was quite enough for me.

I'm scared of ice skating. I had rotator cuff repair surgery last year and I am petrified of doing anything that might result in hurting it again. And since I=klutz, I'm sure it would happen.

I learned (if you want to call it that) to ice skate when I was a kid - using my aunt's old ice skates from the 30's and we skated on the frozen over ponds in the stripping cuts here. I got a pair of NEW skates for Christmas one year when I was in high school -don't know what happened to them as they got relegated to the attic after I left home and probably went up in smoke and flames when the house caught on fire in 1991. But, even though I never got all that good at ice skating, it was great fun. Our neighbor, a gentleman in his 50's when I was a kid, would often go skating with us and some where over the years, he had learned to do figure skating -quite well too. We kids always loved having him along on our skating escapades as he also enjoyed playing hockey with the kids too. Gosh, I miss those days when someone says something that sparks those memories.

You had a lot od fun with the family...

I laced up my ccm hockey skates today, and went crazy. It was too cold to skate yesterday, wind chills being way below zero.

I did some skating in grade school on a field trip and that was a couple of times and I sucked both times. My butt was so sore and not to mention it was a little intimidating when all the kids in the class could skate like Dorothy Hammil and I could not... slighty humiliating so never again! :)
You make it look easy!! Hehe...

This certainly brings back old memories as a boy. I have hardly skated in the past two decades. I miss it... I really do. It is good to see you having so much fun with those boys of yours. :-)

Take care!

Hum, I was sure that I left a comment here this morning. About how skating is good for building up ankles.
