Today is Saturday Scavenger hunt...something I haven't done in a long time...I love it....the theme today is "Old Fashion". So I started scratching my head thinking what I could post...then it came to me...when I was doing one of my courses in the fall I did an assignment on the evolution of the nursing uniform....so I will share with you some photos I found....now I know these are suppose to be my photos...but well they aren't but I thought this would be good for the theme....If you would like to play along please check out tnchick for all of the instructions on how to play along.....enjoy!

I have many more photos of the changes in the nurses uniform and in the caps right up to what we wear today....it would seem that the uniforms are as varied as nursing itself......
Enjoy the hunt!!!

They've certainly changed over the years. The nurses here just seem to wear greens now!
I can recall nurses and there white uniforms and nursing caps.
But even now the doctors are dressing more casual then they did in the past.
When I was young there wasn't that many female doctors and the men doctor wore a tie.
My photo for the hunt is up.
The one, about in the middle, with the nurse standing in front of a drug cabinet type thing, reminded me so much of my Mom - that's how she generally looked when she was on her way to work - back in the 50's.
Fantastic and so appropriate for your blog too.
Thanks for the visit.
What a great idea for the theme. I enjoyed seeing the evolution of the nurses uniform. The uniforms from my youth look very old fashioned now.
The uniforms have sure changed over the years! I remember when my sister was in nursing school at VGH and she had the whole kit and caboodle. The white dress, cap, stockings, shoes, and the big flowing cape!
wow think of all the hours of hard work those pictures represent
Some of those uniforms look really uncomfortable to wear - all starchy and stiff! A great and very interesting collection for photohunt.
It's amazing how even the more recent ones now look old-fashioned! A great series!
I love those old photographs!
fabulous~!
Thats kinda a neat assignment. I'm sure you got an A. Its amazing to see though the times.
I remember when my Mom had to wear a cap.
Wonderful montage of nurses' uniforms! My sister-in-law and her daughter (my niece) are both nurses. They wear very up-to-date uniforms. :)
Things have really changed. When I was a senior in high school planning to go to RN school at the Baptist hospital, I spent a weekend in the dorm. The uniform they had then involved quite a few pieces and the black granny shoes. When I actually went to nursing school throught the Methodist Hospital just 7 years later, they had no dorms, we wore the sear sucker jumper with a white blouse, white hose and white shoes. Our caps were searsucker with white band.
Do you wear a cap? I've noticed hardly anyone does anymore and that was such an honor.
Enjoyed your post,
Mama Bear
My needs and clothes haven't changed much over the years. I'm a country boy and I always will be.
I liked it when nurses looked like nurses. Now, everyone wears hospital scrubs, and there is something sort of missing. I work with nurses, though, and man do they work hard. And they have much more responsibility than they did in the "old" days.
I loved the photos.... but let me tell you, I'm glad I don't have to wear the cap anymore (had to in nursing school) and I love my scrubs!
Sometimes, I am thankful for womens rights!!! I wouldn't be caught dead in a skirt and nursing cap at work!!!! UGH!!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! Come back anytime!
This was so interesting! I loved seeing all the pics of nurse uniforms and how they evolved. Happy Sunday :)
This is a great trip down memory lane. I remember the school nurse and her uniform and how comforting that white uniform was.
Today everyone's in scrubs and they just don't look as sterile and clean. I know, it's just me:-)
Great post!
Great photos! thanks for sharing them. I like everyone in scrubs, just seems so much more diplomatic and comfy.
Wonderful photos, it is nice to see different variations. Some of those uniforms look uncomfortable though. I love the pediatric nurses' cheery uniforms with cartoon characters, at least that is what i see here in the Philippines, one of the major "suppliers" of nurses in the world.
