Three for upstairs......
And three for downstairs.....the other one's I have no idea what they are for.......This brings us to the next question....how many buttons does one have to push in order to "TURN ON" the TV....apparently you have to......
Yup....you are reading it right....my hubby finally made me up an instruction page on how to turn on the TV!!!! What ever happened to a simple on/off button?
It gets more complicated now. In all fairness the downstairs TV did start off with just the one remote...very complicated but just one. Now that hubby has set up his stereo with the TV and surround sound....here comes the other two remotes. So those above instructions have to be modified.
The other night, hubby fell asleep on the couch with the TV going of course. So I go downstairs....read my instructions to turn off the TV....the TV goes off but the sound stays on....dear god I say...what now....and low and behold there is another remote sitting on the table.....not wanting to disturb hubby I fumble for the remote.......I can't see or read a darn thing on this remote, finding out only yesterday I am far sighted you can appreciate how difficult seeing these buttons can be...now I have to turn on the lights....and even then I am struggling to see the buttons....but I find it...or so I thought...Volume.....ooooooooops pushed the wrong button...the volume blares.....but hey...it doesn't wake up hubby....I fumble some more and figure out the right button....but I never did turn it off...just down all the ways.....
So to answer my own question...in my house it takes 3 remotes to operate my TV....and well to be honest, until I get a new instruction sheet from hubby...I don't know how many I have to push to turn it off.....maybe I should just leave it on the opera station, I'm thinking he would simplify things for me much quicker.....
Have a great day all!!!

LOL! I bought my very far-sighted husband an all purpose remote from Brookstone that is so big it takes two hands to operate. It's HUGE!!!!!!!!!

Thank god you only have basic cable...
Oh boy can I relate to this! We have to turn on the tv, turn on the satellite, turn on the stereo... and there's also the DVD player or the DVD/VCR player (yes, we have both)... it gets very, very confusing.
I got my husband a stereo for his truck last Christmas... for his truck... and it even has a remote!!!
By the way, I gave you an award.
Yikes! I think at that point I'd just go without tv altogether. Too complicated for my patience.
My parents bought a vcd/dvd recorder last year. They JUST now got it hooked up and working this year.
Dirk...I think that is the problem...we don't have basic cable...we have everything under the sun....and Misty...yes we have the DVD, CD, VCR,Stereo...it just goes on and on...hence the number of remotes....it just to funny for words sometimes....
I had to laugh at this post because it's so much like me. I have instruction sheets specially written for me too. My daughter did one for my watch a long time ago because I couldn't handle it at all. I have a bunch of remotes too and what I really have trouble with is when I have to rescan the cable channels. Maybe I'll write a post on that one day.
Omigosh, I can so relate what with the TV and the DVC/VCR machine attached. I use two right now, but there is a third remote that I'm afraid to throw out in case one day that's the one I need! :D
oops...DVD
We bought a new satellite this past summer and the lettering on the buttons have worn off so it makes it very difficult to figure out what to press. I remember having to turn a dial to change a channel.
I have two remotes for two TVs and I am always grabbing the wrong one. The one is just for a small bedroom TV and is only for the TV. However the other one is for the dvd,s the cable and I don,t know what else. I try not to use it except to turn on turn off and channel select.
Oh my God, this is soooooo me. We have the 7:1 surround sound with the cable and the DVD and the CD and the TV and God only knows what else. We have tons of remotes that run an assortment of things. It's unbelievable. I usually will ask for "Remote #765.2 or #316.572"show how ridiculous this all is.
My daughtertyped out step by step instructions for me on how to use the TV alone... or the TV with the DVD or the TV with the 7:1 surround or the TV with..... you get the idea. After all of her step by step instructions, I must have touched the wrong button on one of the remotes and had to call her at work to have her help me turn on the TV.... How embarrasing.
Holy Crap, I would need directions too! LOL
Mary Anne, I am laughing out loud. "dear god I say...what now" I can just see you. You are TOO funny.
Isn't there such a thing as a universal remote, that will cover all the bases?
We have a pile of remotes, too. My husband won't let me get rid of any of them, even though some of them are for things and systems we don't even have anymore!
I finally learned how to adjust the volume and how to change channels on our satellite but to turn it off, I find it's easier to just get up and go hit the button on the TV itself.
Wow... I just got a DVD player in the house recently and now I have 2 remotes. I am so not with it.
Oh don't get me started!!!!
I could probably build a computer easier than I can operate the television and DON'T, I REPEAT DON'T ask me to record a programme! :(
Well, that is a challenge.
We have 1 remote in the guest room but guess what, it operates the DVD, VCR and the TV because they're all together.
In the bedroom we have 2 but only one for the TV. The DVD in there doesn't work too well.
In the LV room we have 2 remotes, 1 for the TV and 1 that operates, stereo, surround sound and DVD.
I thought 2 were too many!
Mama Bear
I don't have cable or satellite, I only keep a TV here to watch movies with. And not often at that.
We don't have satellite or cable. I even get confused on running a computer.
Our t.v has a remote and I found it easier to get up on turn the channel anyhow I need stretch my muscles.
Hey.. I think one of those remotes are mine. What did we ever do when we had to get up to change the channel, or turn it on or off.
We're still only get two channels (abc, cbs) not planning on getting satellite anytime soon, will need to get a box next year when everything goes digital.
Okay this is very funny,....but wait I just realized that we have three TVs and 11 remotes...so what the hell am I laughing at .....oye..
ugh... I know, it can be so complex.
I have a handle on ours. But whenever I go to my parents' house, I can never figure theirs out.
My parents have three remotes for their tv. I never know how to turn it on.
RN, things have indeed gotten out of hand in the remote department. I hope I find mine soon, I need it to flush the toilet. ;-)
Ahahaahaha.
I love this because I can sooooo empathize. I have 2 remotes for my TV and one for the DVD player. Oh brother. Why does it have to be so complicated?
I'm LOL'ing because our coffee table looks much the same!
I love watching my Mum try to change the channel, it's priceless!
Quite useful piece of writing, thanks for this post.
