Fun take on this week's theme! I wonder where they got the name Bobby from?
I'm wondering about the 'bobby' name too..
I would love to play along........but I still have a post to do about 'The Face Behind the Blog', so I need to get to that first! Hugs, my friend......missing you!
what a great take on the theme!! I love it!
Bobby, I believe, is from Sir Robert Peel. (*clicking away quickly*) And Wikipedia confirms it!
According to Wikipedia's biography, Peel "helped create the modern concept of the police force while Home Secretary" in the 1820's. "It was at this point that he established the Metropolitan Police Force for London based at Scotland Yard. The 1,000 constables employed were affectionately nicknamed 'Bobbies' or, somewhat less affectionately, 'Peelers' (both terms are still used today)."
Great idea...I'm feeling dumb that I couldn't find something more fun to write about : )
Hello dear Mary Anne:-) Finally catching up on your news...between going away for a few days and having to do some pickling and canning, I'm a bit behind!! Love that you chose an English Bobby to rhyme with Hobby...I often wondered why they were called that but now after reading curmudgeon's comment, now I know:-) Congratulations on winning the Nice award, you truly do deserve it my friend!! xoxo
How nice of Curmy to clear things up for us!
You are one of the first recipients of a new award! Stop by to pick it up. :)
That's neat. I wonder why they are "bobbys" (or bobbies?). I've always wondered why that shape of hat.
