Saturday Scavenger Photo Hunt

This week's theme is "Aftermath". I wasn't sure what to post for this theme until I had viewed some other blogs and realized that I might have something that would do. Back in 2006 we had the worst wind storms I have ever experienced in my life. Power was out for a week. Winds got up to 120km/hr....you've heard of white out conditions well we had what I called green out conditions...the roads were covered with trees and their debris...a four lane highway was down to one lane.....I had to drive to work that evening...it was the most frightening drive of my life....power lines falling down around you....swerving to miss flying branches.....Vancouver's Stanley Park was hit hard as well and lost thousands of trees.....the park is still recovering.....

Here's a glimpse of what happened at our place. My husband had some of those tent shelters....not anymore...we also lost some very large trees....Our driveway was blocked and we had to get the chain saw out to make a path to get through....We are very prone to high winds where I live and in the fall and winter months you expect to have a least one black out a week.....

If you would like to join in on the photo hunt please check out tnchick for all the instructions.

Yap, the aftermath that one has to deal with. Thankfully, that's the worse aftermath for you and your family.

Mother Nature can be scary and leave quite an aftermath. Glad you are okay after all that.

That must have been really scary during the storm.

I would not have driven through that. Job or no job. That's just too scary.

That's perfect for aftermath. What a mess, and so frightening what can happen.

That first picture -- first thought it was a gowned woman sitting amidst the debris, only to find that it also was a thing rather than a person when I clicked and enlarged the photo! ;D

I could see that was some aftermath. I could imagine how hard it was for cleaning up all those mess.

I hope there weren't a lot of casualties during the wind storm.

I remember that storm. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) we weren't at the cabin when it hit. I've been there when the straits have had had 100+ winds, but the most we have experienced when we were there 63 kph. That was strong enough and at least it was just one gust. We are prone to gusty vs. steady winds, but we have lot our chimney pipe and a lot of objects off the deck. Some we find floating, but most disappear or sink, like the top of our BBQ that departed the stand in a major storm. -- Margy

Sounds like a frightening drive. I know Stanley Park well - Siwash Rock gets a mention in one of my forthcoming novels.

we get winds like that occasionally and they have felled a lot of woods...

My, you get some bad wind storms. We do get some bad ones occasionally in Colorado. Great choice for this theme.

Have a great weekend!

We had a similar storm years ago - I wish I had taken more pics!

I remember it well too Mary Anne. No power, for quite a while but we were not as unlucky as you.

I hope it is a long time till we get another but probably not.

It's been much too long since I've visited you! I have such a hard time keeping up with everyone on my Bloglines that I've sadly neglected quite a few of you:-( I'm going to try to organize my time much better so that I have more time to visit all my blogging friends...maybe not all on the same day but at least a couple times a week:-)

Gosh, that sure was quite a wind storm you had gotten. Makes you realize how destructive Mother Nature can be!!

Happy New Year, Mary Anne:-) xoxo

Did you blog about this event back then? If so, it must have happened before I started following your blog cause I don't recollect reading about it at all.
Storms like that -really wicked -aren't they? Back in 1985 -the night my daughter (older one) graduated from high school, this area was hit by a tornado, of all things! We weren 't hit that hard here -mainly out in the wilderness area here -but in western PA, they really got the brunt of that storm with a lot of destruction and injuries, even some folks killed in it. Like I said -wicked stuff they are!

It gives me goosebumps looking at those pictures and reading you talk about driving to work in that. I have made a few of those drives when you are so scared your hands are locked onto the steering wheel. How long did it take you to get all that cleaned up?
