Humor Thursday

A few people have asked me how I am coming along post surgery. My answer honestly would be slower than I had hoped. My chests from my sternotomy still is very uncomfortable......my old pacemaker site is uncomfortable as they did a lot of scar tissue removal and it required retention sutures to keep it closed...now that those are out....it pulls and burns at times....but I know that is just the nerve endings.....the left side of my chest where my new pacemaker was implanted seems to be healing well..but because it is NEW it takes longer to heal. I am getting a cold.....now if there are any of you out there who has ever had broken ribs or a sternotomy you will know what I mean. Sneezing and coughing and blowing your nose can be very uncomfortable. Last night hubby set up my vaporizer with some Vick's rub in it... he had me take some god awful cough syrup and a hot cold medication drink......well it did help me sleep for a bit, but moving in bed is challenging. I am still doing my daily walks...and trying to stay active as possible....some days it's just a couch day.

Hence my mood is not the greatest....and so I thought I would bring on some humour today to help pick me up....and maybe put a smile on some of your faces.....Have a great day!!!

I think you are asking too much in terms of rapid response from your body, Kiddo! Just keep up with the walking, the exercises they probably have you doing and things will come along, in your body's best time frame. As to the cold though -coughing, sneezing, etc., -shortly after surgery, oh yeah, I can relate to that! After I had a urinary tract resection type surgery in 2005, about 2-3 days after I came home from the hospital, I got one ferocious head cold -not something one wants after ANY kind of major surgery and because I am a naughty person -i.e., a smoker -that really pushed the discomfort levels even higher with the coughing. But not of that held a candle to having two herniated discs in my lower back about 3 weeks after I had the colon resection done in 2003! Now that was really and truly nasty! I couldn't sit, walk, lay down -no position that didn't cause pain plus the pain meds I had from the surgery were complicating things because they were constipating me. Not a good combination in conjunction with colon resection as well as two herniated discs! It took me three months of therapy before I could finally walk half-way decently and another 4 months of therapy then to be fairly comfortable. The discs plus radiation residue still wreak havoc with my back and legs from time to time after this long -almost five years now. Sometimes, getting old (and sick) really sucks swampwater, ya know!
Peace and keep healing!

I've done the rib and tail bone thing and laughing wasn't all that enjoyable.
But once they where healed then it came joyful.

Now in a little more year I can stop acting like an adult. I picked that up from your "for every young"

Coffee is on.

Nurses are the worst patients, lol.
I haven't seen any of the cartoons before. I especially like the one, If you haven't grown up by 50 you don't need to.

Take care and take it easy.

I think what Jeni said was spot on. Give yourself time.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Mary Anne, you have been through some rough surgery..time is the only thing that will heal us!! Nurses don't always have patience...and your job and patients will be there when you go back to work.

So try to enjoy and rest with the time you have off from work..I know you must be holding a pillow against your chest while coughing..keep it up..exercise and do only what feels good ..

Wishing you a good recovery my friend. Hugs, Baba

Oh Mary Anne, you will get better, truly. Just don't rush it. I once fell on some rocks and got Pleuresy and then developed a cold. I know how awful it is to cough or sneeze with sore ribs so for you it might be worse. By the way, thanks to the awful weather you guys had today our Westjet flight arrived in Calgary way to late for us to comfortably take. One more day in Calgary with the sweet baby Elliotte...ciao
