Fire and Ice 2007

The town of Qualicum Beach has an annual function called "Fire and Ice". It's a function where the whole community gets involved. The main streets are blocked off, so you can walk aimlessly up and down the streets enjoying the activities. The Fire component of Fire and Ice is "Chili" Yes all the merchants who participate make chili and the general public buys tickets and walks around and samples the chili.....you vote on the best chili. The Ice part are carvers who make statues out of blocks of ice. There were only 11 carvers this year, but they still put on a good display. The clowns wandered up and down the streets entertaining the children. Face painting of course was a big hit.....then there was the main stage where there was a band playing....it truly looked like a good time was being had by all.

Here are a few photos of what we saw.

Happy Monday to you all!

Looks to me like this is a pretty good time to be had for one and all. How was the chili though? Any really good ones and if so, did you get the recipes?

Those ice sculptures are just amazing...I guess it would be a problem to keep them from melting too fast though? With all the chili being eaten, gotta watch that hot air! lol Sounds like a really fun day:-) xox

Mary Anne, that looks wonderful. I had no idea Qualicum had that festival. I think I would like to go next time. There is also a sandcastle festival, isn't there? I love going to that..!

Cheers,
Josie
