Something to Ponder....

I came across this quote today and it got me thinking.......it has to do with Being in Charge.....
Never retract, never explain, never apologize....get the thing done and let them howl.

~Nelly McClery~

What are your thoughts on this?

Have a grand day all!

Sounds like my boss's mantra - I hate her!

Mary Anne, I think I disagree, depending on the circumstances. When I have screwed up, and I know I'm wrong, I say so.

Sometimes you just have to eat crow and apologize. Sometimes it's better to explain in order to get everyone on board. Very thought-provoking post.

I think a leader should admit mistakes, I don't think that detracts from their leadership role.

As I see it a leader is a servant to those he/she is trying to lead.

I guess it would all depend on the situation...sometimes it's best to apologize or explain!! There's being "in charge" then there's being a "*itch" lol xox

A good leader can admit when they are wrong and apologize, and should have the ability to explain why.........otherwise they are not a leader, they are a dictator!

Hugs my friend, and thanks for making me think! ♥

Sounds like the words from a mom in charge. :}

Maybe sometimes.

But never say never.

On the other hand, "get the thing done and let 'em howl" seems like a good plan in a lot contexts.

Did you recently change the design in the background of your template? I like it.

I'll agree with the statement "Never give up trying" but to "never retract" - well, what if the course you've chosen is an incorrect one, do you just keep trying to push it forward anyway? Sometimes, we all have to apologize, re-group, find a different way or better end to our methods. Flexibility here is key in my opinion.

I'd love to be that way. But it would never happen. The "howling" would be too much to handle!

I love all of your responses....When I posted this yesterday it just got me thinking..Wow it is such a powerful statement....leaders sometimes have to make unpopular decisions...I think that is why they are the leader..if it fails it can fall on their shoulders...but I would disagree with the part where it says "never retract". To me that is shear stubborness and in some cases could be arogant. It certainly takes away from the collaberative approach to things.

Thank you all for you comments. I didn't realize it at the time I made this post how it would benefit me in my course...but through your answers/dialogue I realized that it has helped me with an assignment....guess what it's on.....leadership styles and learning...how we learn, how we learn best and what characteristics we look for in a leader....thank you

It sounds like you are doing well in your studies!

As far as the quote goes...

There are many times that visionaries and innovative people see things that other people around them cannot see.

If you share your dreams and visions with the wrong people, many times they will spend their time telling you how it would be impossible to achieve.

How it's not feasible, or too costly...

Maybe that your dream is even crazy.

How many dreams have fallen to the wayside because of those who are around the dreamer?

I say...

"Follow your dreams, keep them secret, and make no apologies for them...

Achieve your dreams and listen to their disbelief."
