Wow!......I am so impressed with the comments I received yesterday on my post about "Change". Every ones' comments were so insightful and well thought out....it was great.....in reading all of your responses I felt like I was in a room with you all and the mediator was going around asking us about change. Thank you all I really enjoyed your comments!
Now I have been watching the news and reading some of your blogs.....I am sorry to say....I think the "groundhog" was wrong this year. I mean with all the snow in the prairie and eastern provinces and states have been getting it's just crazy. I hate to rub it in, but it has been fairly pleasant here. No not always sunny and warm, but at least I have been able to get outdoors and work in my garden and property.
For us it is a sure sign of spring when the hummingbirds arrive. They have been here for a few weeks now. But I think there is more activity as the female has arrived. You see, the Rufous hummingbird,(which is the most common humming bird on the west coast)makes it's journey from Mexico. The male hummingbird leads the way and a couple of weeks later the female arrives. Then the fun begins. They flitter and flutter all over the place, you can hear their humming in the air, that sound is caused by the speed in which their wings move. Last evening was particularly entertaining. They were very active....they were chasing after each other, and at times flying into my front window. Poor things....but it was amazing to watch. I got the camera out and was able to get a picture of both the female and the male, at our feeder. I am still waiting for the shot when I can get them in flight.
The male. Note his colourful red neck...it is iridescent. These birds fly 3900 miles, are high energy birds...always on the go.
This photo gives you an idea as to their size, which is 9 cm.(3-5 in.)
Hope you all have a great weekend! Happy Friday all!

I can't wait for the hummers to arrive here in Quebec. Though I'm seriously starting to wonder if they'll show up this year or freeze to death on the way up.
We get Ruby Throated Hummers. The only kind that makes it to Quebec. I have 4 or 5 in the feeders at the cottage every summer - along with about 30,000,000 ants...
Mary Anne, those are gorgeous photos. I have seen hummingbirds here too. I always plant lots of petunias for the hummingbirds, and they come around to visit me in the early evening.

Our hummingbirds usually arrive around April 15. I just looked at the calendar and I think I had better dig out my feeders and fill them!!!
Lovely shots of your rufous hummers. We have ruby throated hummingbirds and they are very active here. I can sit on my deck in a flowerdy muumuu and they will come right up to my face thinking I'm a flower. They will buzz me then go on to the feeders. I also plant a lot of petunias and hang them next to the feeders as it seems to attract them more.
Loved your post and I hope we get some springtime weather here some time soon. It's been freezing at night (my plants look horrible) and we might get snow over the weekend. So much for global warming!
Have a great weekend, friend.
amazing pictures! we usually get lots of hummingbirds once the garden starts blooming.
I just love hummers...but they don't show up here until May or warmer weather...still a little shivery here!
Between your posts and pictures and the ones Vic at Cariboo Ponderer posts on her blog, I am beginning to learn soooo much about the fauna, especially those native to the northwestern part of this huge continent! Loved the photos too of the hummingbirds - such pretty and dainty little creatures they are.
We're slated to get hit with yet another storm coming in Saturday night and lasting through Sunday which the forecasters say could be a really big one in snow accumulation if various fronts meet in a certain manner. I'm hoping they just maybe sideswipe each other and don't collide head on!
Have a great weekend.
"Throws a snowball at you!!" hehe I'm starting to think that Mother Nature has forgotten that it's supposed to be Spring in my neck of the woods!!! Our hummingbirds don't arrive until mid May, good thing not earlier cuz they'd never survive the cold temps we're having! The robins are here and they're having a hard time trying to get worms!! Wonderful shots of the hummers!! xox
I spotted my first Cardinal of the season yesterday...poor guy, stuck in the cold rain.
I think you are keeping Spring hostage...how much are you asking for?
Good Evening,...Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I have seen plenty of birds around my house. I have seen Bluejays, Cardinals, Black birds, Robins, but the Humming birds are not here yet.We always see them and I love to watch all of them Baba
The sun is finally shining here this morning. Thank goodness the hummers hadn't showed up yet. It was 2° this morning, about 6 inches of fresh sparkly snow.
Oh i am so jealous! I hadn't realised that you got humming birds where you live!
I have a sneaky feeling the hummingbirds are going to be avoiding Connecticut like the plague this year! We have yet to warm up and here it is mid-April! That darned groundhog must have been very, very confused this year!
Great pictures! Doesn't seem fair that the males always get the colorful plumage, does it??
I love the pics of the hummingbirds.....they are one of my favorite birds! Ours haven't arrived yet, but I'm watching for them.
Hugs!
Ohhh wow beatiful pics!! ... You have so many facts in this.. i think this is amazing how much you always seem to know. I learn so much from visiting my blogger friends;)
Thanks for the snack, RN!! Yum!!
Oh how beautiful!
Monday I got a phone call at 5:30. I grumbled and answered the phone. It was the school phone chain: Two hour delay. WHAT??? I look out the window... It's a winter wonderland!
Well, it was nice to sleep in!
The chap is definitely just, and there is no doubt.
