Mustang Sally

I started thinking about my car this morning and wanting to clean it. They say it might rain today, so maybe I can get away with not having to wash it. That thought brought to mind my experiences I have had with that car in the short time I have had it.

Road trips, as I have told you, are common for Doug and I. We wake up, look at each and decide where we will go today. Actually, we don't even say that, just what direction North, South, East or West. We might pack a tooth brush but that's about it. Let me first introduce you to my baby...

Here she is a 2004 Mustang GT convertible anniversary edition. I haven't named her...she is just my baby.

She is such a good girl, drives like stink. But that is where I start to get into trouble. I have been driving for over 20 years. Up until I got my baby, I had never had a ticket in my life. You guessed it.

My first ticket happened one summer evening I was driving to work, late I might add. I had just come off of the highway which has a posted speed of 110Km/hr. As you and I all know, who sticks to the speed limit. Anyhow, I come off of the highway merging into traffic, I have slowed a bit but not much....I am just passing a camper when you guessed it, the boys in blue get me. Dang, and did they ever get me, I got a ticket for excessive speed....130 km in a 80km zone....but I was going down hill officer....that cost me big time $380.00 smackers.

You'd think I would learn after that one. No not me and not my baby, she still wants to travel at excessive speeds. Doug and I were road tripping. I was a glorious day sun shining, roof was down, road was clear ahead for about 2 km and nothing behind us. We were just enjoying the tunes, when lo and behold, out of now where ...there he is....the man in blue yet again. He was far more pleasant then the first officer. We joked, talked about the weather and how my car had a mind of it's own. He told me I should teach it a few lessons, gave me my ticket and said have a nice day. $138 later.

It was spring, driving down to the capital traffic had been heavy, logging trucks, transport trucks, motorhomes, and little old men in hats. All driving to slow for my baby. The car in front of me started it, he pulled out picked up the pace, I followed. You guessed it again, I got caught. Dang!!! Another boy in blue, and he was not a happy camper. $138 again.

So you do the math, how much have I paid in tickets now? $614.00 smackeroos. Ouch!!! You know I never thought of myself as a bad driver. You see I have never been in an accident, I don't tail gate, I don't cut people off, I just like to drive fast. But I guess I am guilty.

So my birthday was this past August, the government decides it wants to give me a present, they send me another fine for my bad driving history over the past year...guess how much.....$640.00 double ouch!! So I have paid over $1200 in speeding tickets in a year. Think I have learn't my lesson? Not sure. I can tell you this, I have learn't to use my cruise control. Personally, I think I get caught as much as I do, because of the type of car I drive it's a magnet for the cops. They always have their eyes out for sports car. But, I know I am in the wrong. But I just can't help it.

Have a great day all.....and drive safe!

I was there and was witness to it all and it was purely accidental......haha. Mary Anne (or M A as I call her) has a heavy foot and has fun with "her baby". Isn't that what that kind of car is meant for though? Anyway, I like driving with her cuz there is never a dull moment. I personally have had it up to 235 kph and it handles like a dream. No wonder she likes it.

Dear MA and Doug: Since I'm a dunce, I can't convert kph to mph in English. That's a big duh on my part. I assume that's driving pretty darned fast.

FYI, when I lived in Chicago I owned a 1967 Mustang, V-8, three-speed. Boy, that baby could go. The only time I EVER got speeding tickets was when I drove that car. Now that I drive an old fart's car, a Mazda MPV, I put the cruise on 8 miles over the speed limit and never get stopped. The two times I was stopped, I didn't have the cruise on. The last time I was driving 68 mph in a 50 mph zone (down a trace with no vehicles in sight on a straight-away). Of course I got stopped by a park ranger. I guess because I have a lot of grey hair and a plausible explanation, I was given a warning (the other time I was stopped I also was given a warning). I guess I have been lucky. Generally I am pretty cautious.

I can totally understand the need for speed, except when those boys in blue come out of nowhere. Sounds funny, but it's really not. I'm surprised they didn't put points on my license like they do here in the states. So many points, you go to driver's school and your license is suspended.

I can't help it either if my car likes to go fast!!!! hehe I've been stopped 3 times now for speeding...which I think it's pretty good to only get 3 speeding tickets in over 27 years!! Just funny, though, that I got all 3 of them in the past 2 years! lol You are right, though, cops seem to really look for the sports cars! Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, Mary Anne, they were so very appreciated:-) Hugs!

Hey motherkitty.....don't worry about he km to miles thing....by the way....68 miles is about 110kms....it's 60 miles to 100km/hr or should i say....1.6 km = 1 mile. So you weren't drivng that fast. LOL....least not in my books....

That's a really nice car.

Looks so innocent just sitting there like that and all...

Who could've known?

I'm quite sure you were totally innocent of you baby's bad habits when you bought it.

I think we will have to refer to you as 'lead foot MA' from now on....LOL. I've only had one ticket too and that was for driving too fast for conditions after I rolled my Jeep over; the road were icy and a county plow truck rolled over too and he didn't get a ticket....so I fought it and won! So in all actuallity, I have had no tickets in my entire 44 year driving career.

But, I'm sure that the boys in blue you have encountered have faulty radar.(it's a good excuse to tell everyone anyway!)

That car is beautiful...My very first car was a 65, 3 on the floor mustang..OMG, I got to many tickets to count. Back then they had those old non-sanctioned clutches in them...oh, I loved driving that car..I then had a 67 mustang and later a 74 or 75 (can't remember)...My dad collected mustangs so we always had them..

Now, I drive a honda accord. I love it but not as much as those mustangs.

They give you more fines for your birthday over there in canada? Wow, I never heard of that before...Those cops just wish they had that nice little baby in their garage.

oh baby, bad baby! stop getting ma all those headaches, ya hear?

we don't have that problem, we are old and drive slow. we're the ones in your way. roadblocks. sigh.....

i think that may be one of the things i love so much about cruise ships, they go about 20 knots. now i have no idea in this world how fast a knot is, but twenty of them is a nice slow cruise!

have a great day girlfriend! bee
