We don't get home delivery, we have those super boxes that the letter carrier comes and
deposits the mail for the folks in the area. As part of this mail box delivery we have a mailbox attached. The other day I had put a thank you card into the mail for my colleagues who I had lunch with last week. Unfortunately in my haste I forgot to put a stamp on the envelope. You know what my letter carrier did. She went and paid for my postage...she took my card to the post office, and paid for my stamp. Yesterday in my slot was a receipt for the stamp...which is totally ok with me.....I just thought it was so kind and thoughtful of her to actually take the card in the first place.I am not sure that had I lived in the bigger city if the letter carrier would have done that. I guess that is just another one of the small perks to living in a Smalltown.
Well here's hoping you all have a great weekend and some kindess is sent your way...or better yet...you spread some kindess......cheers all!

We've had that kind of postal delivery service here for the past 14 years now -very impersonal. Before 1994, we actually had a post office here in the village but when the postmaster we had retired in 1994, the U.S. Postal service then eliminated our post office! (The building used as the post office had been owned by the last postmaster and the Govt. rented the building from him. Because of new regulations pertaining to handicapped accessibility and such, they opted not to build a new post office for our village although several little surrounding communities, some even much smaller than ours, have all now been provided with a new post office building. In eliminating our post office, it successfully removed a valuable entity for socializing within the village. No place left for people from one end of town to the other to meet, by plan or accident, and to converse, share news, gossip too, and just generally feel that we are all part of a nice community. Still angers me, makes me very sad as well, that we no longer have that little bit of a more personal touch in town! The former postmaster wouldn't have put a stamp on a letter if you overlooked it, but he would have held it out and given it to you so you could take care of it. The current delivery people -well, they wouldn't even do that much for you!
You bet I remember the Andy Griffith show and Aunt Bea.
I know people complain about our postal system. Personal around here it just fine.
Coffee is on.
Because my house is in an area about 25 years old, I get actual home delivery of my mail. It is so nice to just go to the front door and pick it up rather than traipse down to the corner in the rain or whatever to see "if" I got any mail. But I must say your postal carrier really did go out of her way to help you out. Kudos to her!
What a nice mail man.

We used to have a postman who would buy your stamp for you if you taped the postage to the letter! THOSE days are long gone. Sigh.
what a cool story!
our mail carrier is a great guy and does what he can, the town has gotten so much bigger and it isn't as easy to maintain personal service.
Hi Mary Anne, it sounds like you have a great mail person..we can buy stamps from our mail person which is great when I run out of stamps..He saves me a trip to the post office.
Have a good day. hugs, Baba
That was very sweet of your mailman to do that! :o)
This is going to be one of the many small things I'll miss when we move from the country. I live in a subdivision with a lot of acreages and our poor postal lady always mixes up mail and parcels in the boxes. I often have someone else's mail in my mailbox but it isn't unusual to deliver someone's mail or parcel to them and vice versa. It really is the little things some days.
