On Valentine's day hubby and I took a lovely walk around the neighbourhood. The owner of the property not far from us has been doing a lot of clearing. I think he is thinking of selling the land in parcels. Some of the area in which he has cleared has the most wonderful view of the water and the local islands and the coastal mountain range. I am sure whoever the lucky person(s) are who buy the property will enjoy the wonderful view.
While walking in the cleared area we noticed some of the local vegetation.....this really caught my eye.....At first I thought is was frost on a twig.....but after a closer look....it appears to be some kind of fungus....what do you think?

I found this very intriguing....how these two trees of different species intertwined. As our walk took place on Valentine's day the first thing that came to mind was even in nature opposites can attrack. Then is got me thinking even further.... if nature can find harmony and compatibility in difference what is wrong with the human race?
We made our way home. Hubby and I had no special plans for Valentine's day, but I couldn't let it go by without making a special something for us to enjoy...It's called Strawberry Cream Cake

I got a little messy with the Belgian chocolate....but boy was it yummy......

Now onto a completely different note. As most of you know I am into birding. Over the past couple of years I have shared photos of birds that I have spotted in my travels. Today was no exception in the bird spotting category. With spring just around the corner the birds have been abundant. So while I was clicking away with my camera it dawned on me that maybe I should start a blog on birding. So that is exactly what I did. The link to it is on my sidebar...but here is it as well....it's called
The Amateur Birder. I have met many of my blogging friends as a result of birding. What I am hoping to acheive with this blog is that it would be used by amateur birders like myself to share birds that we have seen....their antics and the likes. I figure there are some wonderful people with a lot of resources out there and we can share our love for birds. So please stop by my new blog....let me know if you like to bird and if you have photos to share or questions to ask.....I am hoping this blog will be used to talk about anything to do with birding.
I hope you will join me in the fun.

the fungus is soooo interesting! In fact its truly beautiful.
I'm drooling over your strawberry cream cake now!!! *yummy*
I have no idea what that fungus is, but I'll take a piece of that cake! ;o)
Well, this makes three of us who thought the cake looked darned good. You gonna post the recipe now?
And as to the bit about the trees intertwining, how things in nature adjust, etc. whereas we humans don't seem up to the task, it does make you wonder doesn't it, when you think about the fact that we -the humans -are supposed to be the most intelligent of the various species. Somehow I think we should be doing better in that area.
I haven't seen many birds around but I have seen some increase in water fowl returning to grain fields.
Intelligents really have nothing to do with people getting a long.
I'm real not sure why we don't get a long.
It seams so simple to me.
Coffee is on
Mary Anne, you should probably report that fungus to the CDC. It could be something dangerous. There has been a deadly fungus growing on Vancouver Island (I mean deadly to people) and it has spread to the mainland and Washington State. Send that photo to the BC Centre for Disease Control.
I haven't been visiting many blogs lately, I have been soooo busy, but it's really nice to see you again.
I don't know who that website is that picked up my recent post. Very strange!
Cheers,
Josie
It does look like some kind of fungus (it reminds me of Santa's beard) and perhaps Jo is right and it should be reported to the BC CDC or perhaps something similar to the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) here.
And that cake has me drooling as bad as my dog!!! LOL
Hugs!
It does look like some sort of fungus but it is quite beautiful. If you find out exactly what it is please let us know. The trees are amazing and I so agree with you - if nature can do it why can't we?
Sorry I haven't been by to visit your blog in such a long time!
Sounds like you had a better VDay than we did... We did laundry the whole day!!! Not very romantic
Your photos a beautiful as always. I love to watch birds, my daughter has a cabin on a lake and my son in law has taught me a lot about different species.

ooh....I don't know what happened there....nothing seems to be going on the laptop so I kept hitting the button....sorry!!! maybe you can delete them from your end?
yummy looking cake! and no worries about the "fungus" you found, it's not a fungus at all, but Frost flowers! I've heard them called frost beards too and they occur when the sap freezes and is forced out in tiny cracks in the plant stem then freezing into thin "hairs". Beautiful!
