Mother in law really wants to purchase a cruising boat. She wants to be able to spend those lazy days of summer lounging in a chair on the fly bridge of the boat. With her wide brimmed hat and sipping on an ice tea, listening the hum of the engine as the boat glides through the calmer waters of the Georgia Strait. Dropping anchor in some isolated cove and making her way to the shore to explore the beach and to discover what treasures it holds. Yes that is what she is hoping lays ahead for her this summer.

It has been an experience observing my in laws and hubby explore all the possibilities for a boat. There are so many variables to consider. Father in law and hubby would of course like a boat in which they can fish on, mother in law wants a boat where she can just lay back and enjoy and not be bobbing about. It's been a challenge trying to meet the needs of all. But today I think they have narrowed it down to two boats. One is in Tacoma and the other in Seattle. So hubby and the in laws were up and on the road early to make their way to Victoria where they will catch the ferry to Anacortes in Washington.
I have never been on this ferry, but I have been told that it is a wonderful trip. It is only an hour and half ride but it is supposed to be very picturesque. You can often see whales on this voyage along with Doll porpoises as they ride the wake of the ferry. It looks like it should be a nice crossing.
It will be a long day for them. After they view the boat in Tacoma they will make their way back to Seattle to view the other boat tomorrow. After that they will make their way home. I hope they are successful in this boat hunting trip. They have been looking at boats for a few months now, but I guess when you are making that kind of investment you want to make sure it's really what you want.
So this leaves me with a day to myself. I would like to think that I too could just lay back read my book and enjoy. I don't think that will be the case. Living on 5 acres there is always something to be done. The grass it growing so quickly and requires cutting the hedges and edging I did last week looks like it should be done again, I need to do some weeding ah yes the joys of it all.
I am hoping that I might be able to get to the nursing home where I volunteer and pay a visit to some of the residents and if the weather permits take one of the residents out for a walk.

well geeze - you are up extra early!
Sounds like a beautiful place to call home for sure...
Good luck finding that boat! It's raining here in Vancouver and I'd like to go out this morning.
I commend you for your running. I tried it for 2 yrs when I first got here. I don't enjoy it but should get back into it even more, especially with all of the light in the summer time.. But Swimming is like walking, it's very easy.. who knows...
You could inspire me!
Oh to spend my free time on a boat - bliss!
Well done on the run - I can just about manage 20 minutes of Pilates and 6mins on the stepper! :(
You live in such a beautiful area that I think a boat would truly help you enjoy it even more. Hope they find what they're looking for. We've made the ferry crossing from Port Angeles to Victoria, but never the other one. It was a very rough crossing that day.
Enjoy your weekend!
xo
Boy, you amaze me -all that running. I can barely walk roughly a mile at best and I am whipped. Running -I would probably fall over, deader than a doornail.
A new boat sounds like a fantastic venture -and adventure too. I'm with your mother-in-law in her wishes though. Sounds like my kind of way to spend a nice summer day.
I'm so envious of your running ability, but doesn't the body need a rest after a run like that? Maybe trimming the hedges would be a better idea for today and then relax with that book. Have a lovely Sunday. :D
I hope they find the right boat to suit everyone. You're running sounds great. I miss that and am finding it impossible to get rid of all the weight I've gained since I had to stop running. I guess I'll have to break down and eat less but I've always preferred to be active as a way of staying trim.
I'm impressed and proud of you for the running. I know all about that negotiating with yourself.
You MIL's idea of bliss sounds like perfect bliss ;)
Hope one of those 2 boats is it
Are you still playing the piano? A day alone would be a great time to belt out some tunes :)
I have a picture of that boat a long time ago somewhere in my pile of old pics. I wish I had your energy and determination. I really need to start walking more often then maybe I can upgrade to running.
Be nice to have a boat in the family, eh? I can see you with the MIL sitting on the flybridge enjoying a bevvie...
Good on ya for the running thing. Of all the things I've done for my mental health, I think running and exercise have been the most therapeutic. That inner conversation you talked about is gold. Life is so busy and requires so much concentration we rarely have time to talk to ourselves and more importantly, to listen to ourselves. Hang in there.
Howdy! Nice to see another BC RN in the blogosphere! I really just wanted to pass on my total agreement with what you posted on Woundedhealer. Thoughtful and totally bang on. Looking forward to checking out your blog further. Happy Running! I used to loathe running but this year found it has become my endogenous ativan. The only thing that helped me keep my sanity.
ABB (from Revelstoke--well, Edmonton for another week)
I'm really happy to hear you are doing well with yourself and everything is feeling good. It's good to hear your have goals and that you are acheiving them... you must be very proud of yourself.
